UNISMA CAN BE A SPEAKER FOR MODERATE ISLAM

Unisma again held an international webinar, Wednesday (7/4). This time, theme is “Moderate  Islam as a Basis for Building Culture and Civilization for World Peace”, the Webinar participants offers a lot of good understanding of Moderate Islam, paradigmatic challenges, revitalization, and globalization of Indonesian Moderate Islam.

This theme was chosen because the religious conflict that has recently become a hot issue in Indonesia due to terrorist acts some time ago which killed people and cases of forced use of the hijab (veil) for non-Muslim students at one of the State Vocational High Schools, is inseparable from people’s understanding of religion and life harmony between religious and communities. As a country with a major Muslim population, Indonesia is quite good when compared to Middle Eastern countries that have never been absent from wars.

Unisma as a leading university in Nahdlatul Ulama circles is accustomed to Islamic Moderation in Indonesia. Besides, Unisma academics are fostered to become Nahdlatul Ulama cadres who will become agents of the dissemination of moderate Islamic understanding both nationally and internationally. .

With this fact, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Saudi Arabia,  Zuhairi Miswari, entrusted his message and support to Unisma regarding the importance of Unisma to become a spokesperson for Moderate Islam in the framework of religious spirit, nationality, diversity and humanity.

In addition, the Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia supported Unisma to be the driving force in the holding of international discussion on issues that exist in the world and issues encountered by Islam and Islamic moderation.

“Unisma has to be the spokesperson for Moderate Islam, why? Because Moderate Islam in Nahdlatul Ulama is the one which is true both in terms of faith, fiqh (Islam ways or rules), and mysticism,” said the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Saudi Arabia, Zuhairi Miswar.
