On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, the Head of  Unisma Lab. and Halal Center, Hj. Novi Arfarita, SP., MP., M.Sc., Ph.D and Lab technicians,  attended the Workshop on “Qualitative and Quantitative DNA Analysis Using the Progenus Easy Fast and Fast Screen Kit” organized by the Halal and Thayyib Center of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang at the Sahid Montana II Hotel Malang. This activity also became a venue for gathering 5 Halal Centers in Malang, thus further strengthening relationships and strengthening networking for the Unisma Lab and Halal Center.
Participants who attended the workshop came from various halal center laboratories including Halal Center of University of Islam Malang, Brawijaya University Halal Center, UMM Halal Center, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Halal Center, Lecturers and Students of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim from Biology, Chemical Engineering and Pharmacy majors.
This workshop aims to detect pig contamination in processed meat products using DNA analysis by PT. Sciencewerke. Detection of pork contaminants in processed meat products is important to know because pork and its derivatives are a critical point of halal products.
The workshop was carried out by dividing the participants into 8 groups and each group was given processed meat products such as fried chicken, corned beef and meatballs for DNA analysis. DNA analysis that was practiced in this workshop by PT. Sciencewerke uses contaminant Quantification with Real-time PCR and Fast Detection with LAMP-based.
Halal Center of University of Islam Malang provides technicians to analyze DNA using LAMP-based Real time PCR (qPCR) and Digital PCR (dPCR) to increase Lab technician skills of Lab. and Halal centers of  UNISMA and can detect pork contaminants in processed meat products. Head of the  center Lab of Unisma and Halal Center plans to provide the same training to researchers and laboratory assistants at UNISMA.
