A RELIGIOUS TALK ON NATIONALISM WITH GUS BAHA ‘

The University of Islam Malang (Unisma) has a tradition of visiting Islamic boarding schools whose aim is not only to keep in touch with them but also to have discussion with Kyai (the religious figure)

This time (31/8) Unisma together with the foundation board and also faculty leaders and institutional units visited KH. Ahmad Baha’uddin Nursalim or familiarly called Gus Baha’ who is the caretaker of the tahfidzul Qur’an (Holy Koran memorization) LP3IA school of  Rembang and the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama.

The rector of Unisma, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, said that this time Unisma not only had familial visit but also had religious talks; in other word, Unisma not only invited Kyai   but aslo occasionally visited him..

“It’s been a long dream to have relgious talk with him. Alhamdulillah (Thank God), finally the dream was realized and hopefully we all will get the benefits and blessings from this religious talk” he said

Peace is a teaching that was exemplified and emphasized by our Great Prophet Muhammad. Therefore, in this opportunity the religious talk was under the theme Islamic Dialectics and Nationalism: Peaceful Islamic Interpretation for Harmony.

In his talk, Gus Baha mentioned that there is madzhab (a school of thought) that all Unisma people should know that explaining is not better because it seems that we have not done it yet.

“In the arrival of Islam in Indonesia, there was never a conflict between Islam and the state because the saints never opposed Islam and Indonesian or diversity. The saints have a mission to preach which might be different from one to other places. The differences are in terms of religions, choice of schools of thought, tradition, so there is no need to be contested. But instead, it becomes a preaching ground, “explained Gus Baha”.

This religious talk on nationalism can be viewed on the official YouTube account of Humas Unisma Official and NUChanel. A few hours after the religious talk, this program was uploaded and had been watched more than 10 thousand times.
