NATIONAL LIBRARY SIGNS MOU WITH UNISMA FOR COMMUNITY LITERACY

The National Library of Indonesia in collaboration with the Provincial Government of East Java, the City Government of Malang and Unisma held activities to improve the community literacy index.

Under the theme “Innovation and Creativity Librarians in Strengthening the Community Literacy Index to Realize Excellent Human Resources Towards an Advanced Indonesia”, the activity was held at Unisma, Monday (28/12).

In this agenda, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Library of Indonesia and the Provincial Government of East Java and also the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (MoU) between the National Library of Indonesia and Unisma.

Those attending as speakers were the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa, Head of the National Library of Indonesia, Muhammmad Syarif Bando, Mayor of Malang, Sutiaji, Rector of Unisma, Prof. Dr. H Maskuri MSi, and literacy activist, Djoko Saryono.

“Literacy is the depth of one’s knowledge. There are four levels of literacy index, “explained the Head of the National Library of Indonesia, Muhammmad Syarif Bando.

The four levels, he added, include the ability to collect reading material sources, the ability to understand what is implied from what is written,  the ability to come up with new ideas, new theories, and creativity, as well as new innovations and the fourth  is the ability to create quality goods or services that can be used in global competition.

“This means that all knowledge in the library and on campus, must be ensured to reach marginalized people. Our perspective on libraries is no longer a row of books, but how the knowledge is correlated with all competent people, “he explained.

Meanwhile, Unisma Rector, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, believes that cooperation or synergy in the literacy movement will trigger the emergence of superior human resources.

“We present it and we dedicate it; the Unisma Library has provided a very enjoyable medium because it is an educational tour. It is our intention that the Unisma Library is at the heart of the development of this university. Therefore, Unisma is ready to work side by side with anyone to advance Indonesia through superior and competitive resources, “said the Rector of Unisma.

The Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa who joined via zoom, explained that the reference to literacy is a very important part.

“I think it is worth being held in Unisma and attended by the Mayor of Malang, this is very worthy. Because as we know, more than 100 countries send their students to Malang city. So, how can global literacy actually be found in Malang City, “said the Governor of East Java.
