EXPANDING TO COLOMBIA

University of Islam Malang (Unisma) does not stop improving its quality in order to achieve World Class University status. One of the indicators that must be achieved is an expanding  cooperation. For this reason, Unisma seeks to reach the South American region by opening communications to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Colombia, Priyo Iswanto.

In his speech, Unisma Rector,  Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, targets this university to be able to step into the world class University in 2027.

“In 2021 we will open an international class, then in 2023 we will enter an entrepreneur university, then we are also determined to achieve world class university status in 2027,” he said when opening the FGD event, (29/1).

Prof. Maskuri hopes that Unisma can compete with other global universities. He said that currently the campus is eager to  expand gobal cooperation. A number of foreign students have also studied at Unisma. The current status of Unisma is as the top university in Nahdlatul Ulama area.

“We want to bring the spirit of Islam namely moderate, tolerant and harmonious in achieving international quality universities,” he said.

Priyo Iswanto welcomes Unisma’s determination. According to him, the opportunity is wide open because the college has something special and specific. “The goal of Unisma can be directed to build the image of Islamic universities in global constellation,” he said

Furthermore, Priyo suggested Unisma to do an advantage mapping first. Through this mapping, he continued, this campus could be juxtaposed with universities abroad.

“The important thing is to increase self-confidence and performance. As long as there are missions that can be conveyed and useful, then do it,” he said.

The Colombian Ambassador also added that Unisma still had to align it with the vision and mission that it carried. The ambassador, who is headquartered in Bogota, Colombia, said that his party would help realize this dream. He was also quite confident that in terms of costs, a win-win solution could be found with universities in Colombia.

“I think there is a lot that can be explored. I think there are many ways and there are also many things that support that direction,” he explained.

In this Focus Group Discussion activity, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Colombia, Priyo Iswanto, was accompanied by the Director of America II, Darianto Harsono, and a member of the Board of Trustees of Unisma, Prof. Dr. H. Imam Suprayogo
