HOLDING OFFLINE AND ONLINE GRADUATION

The graduation procession of Unisma this time was quiet different. This 64th graduation period was held online as mandated by Malang Mayor Circular Number 30 of 2020 concerning the Application of Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols as Efforts to Prevent and Control COVID-19.

Participated  by 1401 graduates of the even semester of the 2019/2020 academic year, this graduation ceremony continued solemnly.

Unisma rector, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, said that the implementation of this online graduation was decided after going through various considerations.

“This even semester graduation should be done in October and held offline but in fact it was carried out on 11 and 12 December and 19 and 20 December 2020. The preparations are 100 percent ready. But considering the Mayor circular  regarding the graduation  implementation, we have to postpone offline graduation for the sake of humanity. Therefore, we apologize for the inconvenience,” he said, Sunday (17/1/2021).

However, it is hoped that the change in  implemention of this graduation will not reduce the joy of graduation.

Of the 1401 graduation participants, only 23 representatives were allowed to attend in person by obeying strict health protocols, one representative for one Study Program. Others did it  via Zoom and it was broadcasted live via their YouTube account.

Prof. Maskuri said that there have been more than 50 thousand Unisma alumni who are spread out at the same time taking part at the national and international levels in various fields. This success is inseparable from Unisma’s target to produce superior and competitive alumni through various educational programs that are continuously updated.

“As a tertiary institution under the auspices of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Unisma aims at producing intellectual graduates with Islamic guidance and entrepreneurial content that is constructed in the curriculum. This is relevant to Unisma jargon, Unisma from NU  for Indonesia and world civilization,” he stressed.

In the future, he hopes that these graduates will stick to the spirit of Islamic values wherever they are because, for Maskuri, the completion of study is not the end of the study journey. Learning is life’s mission, starting from going into society until the end of life though.

“Next, what you enter is a free class without walls. A living laboratory is where your problem solving will be honed with new skills that are needed. Hold on to the principles of sincerity, patience, harmony, discipline, and courage based on the truth so that you can continue to develop positive and useful energy, homeland and nation, “he said.
