UNISMA PREPARES MILLENIAL DISASTER PREPAREDNESS

UNISMA  held a seminar on disaster preparedness by involving the milleneal students. It is expected that students can spread positive information to reduce the number of victims during a disaster.

Unisma’s rector, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, said that our country is included in the Equator line which is prone to disasters especially the earthquake and tsunami. So by holding a seminar entitled “Geology of Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Preparedness”, students are expected to be the spearhead to protect the environment and reduce disaster risk.

“This is a strategic moment to gather various aspects of human life. As servants of God on earth, we must preserve nature and utilize nature around us. Humanity is indeed a concern of Unisma, “said Prof. Maskuri, Monday (11/25).

The seminar itself collaborates with The Church of Jesus Christ Foundation of Latter-day Saints. Even the NU’s largest campus will hold a world peace conference which is the largest in Asia. This big event is a collaboration between the great Nahdlatul Ulama management and the Vatican.

The seminar was attended by 600 students and a staff of  the Malang Institute of Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG), Dr. Daryono, S.Sc., M.Sc. He said that there were several new paradigms in viewing disasters. First, understanding disaster risk, the second is risk management. The third is by building investments by strengthening buildings, and the fourth is preparedness with disaster simulation and evacuation exercises. “By simulating a disaster evacuation exercise, it will sharpen the instinct to save themselves,” said Daryono.
