Moving towards a Research University

Unisma encourages all lecturers to immediately publish the results of their research in the Center for Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). For this reason, the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) Unisma held a patent drafting workshop on Wednesday (12/26) with the key note speakers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Suprapto, DEA as Head of LLDIKTI  areaVII of East Java and JuldinBahriansyah, Head of Subdirectorate of Evaluation and Facilitation of Intellectual Property of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. Head of LPPM Unisma Dr. Ir. H. MasyhuriMahfudz, M.S., said that the workshop was held to open insights and motivate lecturers to be more active in conducting research. Beside that, it gives a new insight to the lecturers so that the results of their research can be patented in the Intellectual Property Rights. Masyhuri said until now there are still many works of lecturers which are ‘scattered’, because those works have not been registered to the Center for Intellectual Property Rights. Even though according to him, in terms of quality, many of them are worthwriting and publishing. “It will be very disappointing if the works are later claimed by others. Even though it is very feasible, at least it becomes copyright or even has a chance to become a patent, “he said. So far there have been 149 works byUnisma lecturers registered to the Intellectual Property Rights. There are eight works in the process for patent rights. “Our target in the near future is to immediately process and overseethe  eight patent processes  of those lecturers’ works,” he said.
