DOING COMMUNITY SERVICE IN PENANG, MALAYSIA

University of Islam Malang (Unisma) sent 27 students to have community service in Malaysia, Friday (26/7/2019). Beside teaching, the students also spread religious teachings there for a month. This is a manifestation of internationalization program of this   dreamed NU-based university.

The rector of Unisma, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, stated that the program is geared to university internationalization. This is further intended for academicians to be able to adapt to the world out here. This also indicates utilization of professional lecturers and is a step to improvement of education quality.

The opportunity to have overseas community service is to earn something they do not find in Indonesia and is expected to give them chance to develop four competencies which characterize Unisma’s students. Those are critical, creative, collaborative, and communicative but down to earth,

In the same opportunity, the Dean of Faculty of Islamic Studies, Unisma, Drs. H. Anwar Sa’dulloh M.Pd, said that this is a pioneering program as this is the first time for Faculty of Islamic studies to send  27 students to have community service abroad and 3 of them are students of Faculty of Law.

“They are scheduled to have community service for a month and in charge of several places such as ABIM foundation, Islamic elementary schools, Religion courts and zakat(alms) management institution” He said.

Anwar Sa’dulloh further said that the students doing this community service will be welcomed by Vice Governor of Penang, Malaysia and Indonesian general consulate in Penang, Malaysia.
