Universitas Islam Malang Expands Its International Network through Strategic Visit to Malaysia

Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA) continues to strengthen its global engagement. Rector Prof. Drs. H. Junaidi, M.Pd., Ph.D., accompanied by the Head of the International Cooperation and Development Affairs (ICDA) under the International Affairs Office, Sonny Elfiyanto, M.Pd., Ph.D., conducted an official visit to Malaysia and signed several strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).

The visit began with a meeting at INTI International University. The UNISMA delegation was warmly received by Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Wong Ling Shing and Director of the International Relations and Collaboration Centre, AP. Ts. Dr. Choo Wou Onn. The meeting held special significance, as INTI had previously visited UNISMA in Malang twice, making Prof. Junaidi’s trip a reciprocal visit. Both universities discussed opportunities for student exchange, collaborative research, faculty internationalization programs, and community engagement initiatives.

The agenda continued with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between UNISMA and the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Malaysia (KBRI Malaysia), held at Nilai Springs Resort, Negeri Sembilan. The MoU was signed directly by the UNISMA Rector and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia, Hermono.

The agreement covers the implementation of International Community Service Programs (KKN) and Community Engagement (PKM) activities at Sanggar Bimbingan centers across Peninsular Malaysia. This initiative provides UNISMA students with opportunities to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience, particularly in the field of education, while also supporting Indonesian communities in Malaysia in accordance with KBRI’s mandate and regulations.

In addition, Prof. Junaidi, affectionately known as Prof. Jun, paid a courtesy visit to the Nahdlatul Ulama Special Branch in Malaysia (PCINU Malaysia). He was welcomed by the Chair of Rois Syuriah PCINU Malaysia, Abdul Bari, S.T., M.Sc. Eng., along with board members and affiliated bodies. The meeting fostered a warm dialogue on the role of PCINU in assisting Indonesian communities in Malaysia, as well as potential collaboration in the areas of da’wah, education, and social initiatives.

“UNISMA is committed to becoming a world-class university while remaining firmly rooted in Islamic, Ahlussunnah wal Jama’ah, and national values,” Prof. Jun affirmed.
