Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA) commemorated National Santri Day (HSN) 2025 with a series of solemn and meaningful events held on campus on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The occasion served not only as a spiritual reflection, but also as a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to the role of santri in nation-building and the academic community’s contribution to the advancement of education and global civilization.
In his address, UNISMA Rector Prof. Drs. H. Junaidi, M.Pd., Ph.D., called on the entire academic community to understand that the struggle of today’s santri lies in safeguarding and enriching independence through knowledge, moral integrity, and tangible contributions across various fields of life.
“The struggle of santri today is no longer about taking up arms, but about preserving and strengthening our independence through hard work and meaningful contributions in every sector of society,” Prof. Junaidi stated. He emphasized that santri must serve as the moral and spiritual guardians of the nation, while also possessing strong intellectual capacity to actively participate in national development and the progress of global civilization.
The commemoration at UNISMA also conveyed a strong message about preserving the dignity of pesantren and ulama as pillars of the nation’s moral foundation. The Rector encouraged younger generations to remain discerning in receiving information and to uphold the values of truth, proper conduct (adab), and respect for the rich traditions of Islamic boarding schools.
Through this momentum, UNISMA reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing intellectually grounded santri who are capable of contributing to national development and guiding Indonesia toward a greater role in global civilization, aligned with the university’s vision of becoming a world-class institution.
