One of lecturers of Unisma has succeeded in making eucalyptus oil as a mixture of biodiesel fuel. With this mixture, the use of biodiesel exhaust gas will be more environmentally friendly and certainly more efficient.
Dr. Ena Marlina ST MT in her research found another function of eucalyptus oil. She processes this oil as a mixture of alternative fuels for biodiesel. This research is motivated by the importance of vegetable oil as a biodiesel substitute for environmentally friendly diesel fuel.
Furthermore, the lecturer in Mechanical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Engineering Unisma explained that biodiesel can be obtained through triglyceride transesterification or emulsification reaction. However, the conversion of vegetable oil into biodiesel in the transesterification process requires large amounts of energy with high costs, so the use of non-transesterified vegetable oil as a substitute for fossil fuels in modern combustion needs to be reviewed.
The research was carried out by a process of  mixing. “Mixing vegetable oil with other fuels is one way to reduce viscosity, including by mixing eucalyptus oil as I have done,” she explained.
Dr. Ena deliberately chose eucalyptus oil because she said that this oil is one of the essential oils, which are volatile and  can be mixed with specific gravity and dissolve organic matter. Also, eucalyptus oil is included in aromatic hydrocarbons which has good anticock properties because it includes a cyclic compound with six carbon atoms that bind to one hydrogen atom.
Furthermore, she stated that through mixing eucalyptus oil, combustion becomes more perfect. The second element, which is terpineol, has a volatile hydroxyl group and accelerates the combustion reaction; the content contained in terpineol serves to increase the efficiency of the combustion process. In addition 1,8-cineol in the form of cyclic and open chain is expected to reduce the strength of bonds between the molecules making up diesel oil allowing the combustion process will be more effective.
