Universitas Islam Malang Welcomes Gen-25 New Students with the Theme “UNISMA Freshmen Making an Impact”

Universitas Islam Malang (UNISMA) officially welcomed the arrival of its Gen-25 freshmen through the 2025/2026 Orientation for New Students (OSHIKA Maba). The event was held in a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere under the theme “UNISMA Freshmen Making an Impact: Socially Caring, Environmentally Sustainable.”

This year, UNISMA admitted a total of 5,961 new students. The cohort includes 2,124 undergraduate (S1) students, among them 90 international students from Timor Leste, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Afghanistan, and Morocco; 147 postgraduate students (Master’s and Doctoral levels); 3,837 Professional Teacher Education (PPG) students participating online; and 156 students enrolled through the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway. UNISMA Rector, Prof. Drs. H. Junaidi, M.Pd., Ph.D., emphasized that Oshika Maba is more than a ceremonial welcome.

“This orientation serves as a foundation for character building from the very beginning. We instill three main pillars in our new students: strengthening national identity, cultivating intellectual excellence, and reinforcing Islamic values rooted in the Ahlussunnah wal Jama’ah tradition,” he stated. Vice Rector III, Dr. H. Muhammad Yunus, M.Pd., added that this year’s theme reflects the university’s commitment to nurturing a generation that is both capable and impactful.

“New students of Universitas Islam Malang are expected not only to excel academically, but also to create meaningful social impact and contribute to environmental sustainability,” he explained.

Prior to the main OSHIKA activities, students participated in environmental service actions at 50 locations surrounding the campus, including places of worship, security posts, neighbourhood offices, and drainage areas. They also engaged in discussions on sustainability aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework.

Through the spirit of UNISMA Freshmen Making an Impact, the university hopes that Gen-25 students will grow into intelligent, principled, innovative individuals who care deeply about society and the environment. Their presence is expected to bring real contributions toward a better future.
