ECONOMIC RELIEF IN PANDEMIC TIME

For the past few months, the Covid-19 pandemic has been in the midst of society and has had an unavoidable economic impact. Many people have lost  their daily jobs and find a way out so they can continue to support their families.

As a concern for this, the Unisma’s Food Security Volunteer Team held a counseling and mentoring with the theme of Aquaculture in a bucket and composting on the 2nd floor of Uthman bin Affan building, Unisma.

Vice Rector 2 of Unisma, H. Noor Shodiq Askandar, SE, MM, revealed that this event was held in the context of a follow-up of how we survive in difficult situation due to covid-19.

“Surviving means that we can adjust to the situation. In this difficult situation we cannot stand idly but must create a new strategy. ” he said

Furthermore, the Vice Rector 2 added that the activity that was participated  by the head of neighborhoods  around Unisma not only taught how to perform aquaculture in buckets but also gave them   ways to make household compost and also cultivation of plants such as kale and several other plants.

“Each neigborhood leader will later get 5 units of in bucket aquaculture equipment, which can be made as a pilot project and can be taught to other residents later” vice rector 2 added.

The Rector of Unisma, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, said that this activity was carried out for a concern of Unisma about the current conditions.

One way to do this is to create new creativity, considering that the purchasing power of  today’s people is slowing down. Food availability will gradually decrease.

“Even though in bucket aquaculture is very simple, but things like this should not be considered small because if the number are large it will certainly make a high economic contribution. Later, if it has been implemented in all neighborhoods, a big harvest will be held together, “said the rector of Unisma

The Rector  of Unisma also said that in bucket aquaculture model could be developed in stages, initially at the neighborhood level and later to larger areas such district level

One of the neghborhood representatives, Yusnadi, expressed his appreciation to Unisma, because this campus cared about the economy of residents around the campus affected by Covid-19.

“Coming home from counseling, we will socialize the knowledge we gained to neighborhood people and youth associations  so that it can be followed up and all citizens can practice in bucket aquaculture ” he said.
