Ulama Al-Azhar Mesir Berikan Kuliah Internasional di UNISMA, Bahas Keindahan Qiroah ‘Asyroh

Universitas Islam Malang once again welcomed a prominent figure in Islamic scholarship. This time, Fauzy Sa’id Muhammady Haikal, a distinguished scholar from Al-Azhar University, Cairo, delivered a public lecture as part of the International Scholars Lecture program held on Monday (June 2).

Carrying the theme “Exploring the Beauty of Qira’at ‘Asyrah: Between Scholarship and Spirituality,” the lecture was attended by hundreds of students and lecturers from various faculties at UNISMA. Sheikh Fauzy began his presentation by quoting the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): “The best among you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” He emphasized the importance of placing the Qur’an at the center of one’s pursuit of knowledge.

“The most noble knowledge is that which is connected to the Qur’an. Therefore, devote yourselves to studying the Qur’an with sincere hearts,” he told the audience.

In his explanation, Sheikh Fauzy outlined three essential pillars in studying the Qur’an. First, having a continuous chain of transmission (sanad) in Qur’anic recitation that traces back to the Prophet through qualified teachers. Second, ensuring conformity with the Uthmani script (Mushaf Uthmani). Third, adhering to the established rules of the Arabic language.

“These three pillars must be carefully observed, because within the Qur’an there are verses that share similar written forms but differ in their modes of recitation,” he explained.

He further stressed that the ability to recite the Qur’an properly is both a blessing and a mark of excellence, one that will place a person among the angels. He reminded participants that the Prophet Muhammad himself learned the recitation directly from Angel Jibril before teaching it to his companions.

Regarding the variations in Qur’anic recitation, Sheikh Fauzy noted that they are closely related to the diverse dialects of Arab tribes across different regions. For that reason, anyone wishing to deepen their knowledge of qira’at must possess a pure heart and sincere intention.

“A student of the Qur’an does not merely read it. The study must be accompanied by deep spirituality,” he added.

The event was attended by the university’s vice rectors, foundation board members, students from the Faculty of Islamic Studies, and members of the JQH Student Activity Unit. The lecture was officially opened by UNISMA Vice Rector I, dr. Erna Sulistyowati, M.Kes., Ph.D., who expressed her appreciation for the presence of an international scholar on campus.

“It is truly an honor for UNISMA to host an international scholar such as Sheikh Fauzy Sa’id Muhammady Haikal to deliver a lecture to our lecturers and students,” she said.

She expressed hope that similar programs would continue in the future and inspire students to deepen their understanding of the Qur’an.

“We encourage our students to make the most of this valuable opportunity. May the knowledge gained be applied personally and shared with others,” she concluded.
