DESIGNING FREEDOM CAMPUS PROGRAM – FREEDOM LEARNING

The drafting team for the curriculum reconstruction of Unisma has prepared a draft in implementing the freedom to learn- freedom campus, Wednesday (1/7/2020). This draft is submitted internally to get feedback before it is carried out later.

“Because later it will become a constructive guidebook for faculties,” said the Rector of Unisma, Prof. Dr. Maskuri, M.Si, when giving his remarks and feedback at the event.

New ideas are expected to emerge so that Unisma increasingly has high competitiveness and distinctiveness. Furthermore, the rector’s decree will be made later and must be implemented in the 2020/2021 academic year.

Dr. Nur Fajar Arif, the curriculum reconstruction team member,  said that later there would not only be reconstruction but there was a fundamental change. The juridical foundation is the policy of the Minister of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim, who launches an independent campus consisting of three things, namely new study programs, accreditation and Legal Entity State University.

“But here we are talking about the point of freedom learning namely the right to study three semesters outside the study program. The legal basis has been based on the decree of ministry of education and culture No. 3/2020 about the national standard of higher education. The university gives rights to students about the courses to take rather than voluntarily take them.  “explained Dr. Fajar.

For this reason, for five semesters, students are required to take courses at the origin study program but not for health study program students such as medicine and pharmacy. With this policy, there is a change in the design of the notion of credits. Credit is an activity hour, not a study hour. There are eight courses outside tertiary institutions which can be carried out in the three semesters. They are exchange of students, internships / practical work, assisting / teaching in education units, independent studies / projects, humanitarian projects, entrepreneurial activities, and research.

In the submitted draft, there were five schemes related to the organization of freedom to learn-freedom campus courses. The first scheme is students fully take courses  in their chosen study program. The second scheme is taking courses in study programs and outside study programs in tertiary institutions. The third scheme is taking courses in the study program and outside study program. Scheme four is taking courses  outside study programs in tertiary institutions and outside tertiary institutions. Scheme five is taking courses in study  programs, outside study programs in universities and outside universities with acceleration.
