Creating the Golden Generation: Unisma Students Introduce Technology Early

Students of Unisma introduce technology to junior high school students in remote areas. Through the House of Technology for Junior High School Student Learning program, these students hope to bring forth a golden generation in the future.

Akmaluddin, the spokesperson for the Student Creative Home Program which formed the Technology House for Student Learning, said that the program was deliberately targeting junior high school students. This is because, at the school level, this is the beginning of learning basic technology in addition to its theory.

“Our target is indeed far ahead, which is 5 to 10 years in which children will be literate to and even produce  technology, “said Alkamaluddin to duta.co.

He explained that this Unisma Student Creative Home  team really wanted to change the mindset of junior high school students, especially those in remote areas, such as those in Donomulyo village, Malang regency. For 5 months they introduced several technologies such as clean drinking water filtration, solar cells, microbial fuel cells, and micro hydro or hydro power plants.

“In the village of Donomulyo the soil contains lime as well as the water. According to the village head, many of citizens died because of too much exposure to lime. Hence,  the need for clean water that is free from lime becomes an important need there, “Alkamaluddin said.

The chair of the House of  Technology Learning for Junior High School students admitted that the impact of the long-term Student Creative Home program could not only be a few months. Student Creative House also provides assistance according to talent, especially those interested in technology. It is hoped that the introduction of technology early in the next 5 or 10 years in Donolmulyo can become a technology producer.

“The measure of success is not the mastery of the theory, but how far the future students can later apply to technological ideas. The target is that in the next 25 years young people in Malang regency and the Indonesian golden generation will be able to compete globally “said Alkamaluddin optimistically.

The House of  Technology Learning for Junior High School students  consists of 6 students. Among them were Alkamaluddin from the department of mechanical engineering, while Intan Rifaini, Indana Zulfa and Indha Fitrotin Azizah are from civil engineering, Nur Eka Agustin from mathematics department  and Moh Yasak from electrical engineering department.
