The Student Creative House team of Unisma is trying to reduce the heating temperature of the earth through verticultural farming techniques, an effort that deserves appreciation. In fact  this planting method  contributes to the creation of fresh air and can gain revenue.

The head of Student Creative House team, Nur Anizah, maintained that the idea departed from concern for the increasing temperature problems in Gresik regency due to  many large factories and hundreds of motorized vehicles coupled with the problem of limited land in residential areas close to the industrial area. So this team tried to find a solution.

“After some time looking for problem solving and a long discussion with several lecturers, finally we tried to campaign for the importance of greening in the surrounding environment by introducing the Verticulture method, “said Nur Anizah.

The student from Biology department of Unisma then targeted residents of Pondok Permata Suci Gresik housing. The education activities to the community lasted for 2 weeks and were carried out in stages. The first stage, which was carried out on February 23, was providing socialization about the procedures for planting on limited land.

“This activity was attended by around 40 residents from various groups ranging  from the heads of neighborhoods, local PKK members to Karang Taruna youth in Suci village,” she added.

After conducting socialization activities, Unisma Student Creative House team returned to this residential area on March 08, 2020  . This time the concept of the activity is different, if in the first phase of the activity the residents are gathered in the neighborhood hall, then in the second phase,  the students went into the homes of residents to see developments and ask ed obstacles they experienced during the two weeks applying this planting method.

Verticulture itself is a technique of farming in a room or a narrow area by utilizing a vertical space as a farming place which is carried out in stages.
