INTEGRATED LAB AND HALAL CENTER ASSIST HOTEL AND RESTAURANT  FOR HALAL CERTIFICATION

University of Islam Malang (Unisma) is trusted by the Malang City Government to provide Halal Certification Assistance for Hotels and Restaurants. In this case the Integrated Laboratory and Halal Center of Unisma collaborate with the Malang City Culture and Tourism Office.

Unisma rector, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri Bakri, M.Si,  gave the trust to the Integrated Lab and Halal Center to provide assistance to hotels, restaurants and micro, small, medium enterprises  (MSMEs) in the city of Malang.

In 2020, the hotels under assistance were Whizz Prime hotel, Pelangi hotel, Maxone hotel, Grand Cakra Hotel and in 2021, the assisted hotels are Whizz Prime hotel, Maxone hotel, Rainbow hotel, and Grand Cakra hotel.

This activity lasts for two days with an agenda of delivering material on the halal assurance system and then a clinic for filling out the Halal Assurance System documents. Participants in this activity were representatives of Hotel and Restaurant management who had been invited by the Malang City Culture and Tourism Office. “Each hotel sends three representatives to further socialize at work and as the Halal Management Team,” said Head of the Unisma’s Central Laboratory and Halal Center, Hj. Novi Arfarita, SP, MP, M.Sc, Ph.D.

In 2020 a Halal Assurance System Training was also carried out by the Malang City Youth, Sports and Tourism Office. This activity was held for two days, namely on October 15 and 21, 2020 Located at the Malang City Youth, Sports and Tourism Office.

Novi explained that assistance for hotels and restaurants is divided into several series namely submission of training results documents, document inspection, examination results letters, hotel / restaurant visits, document revisions by hotels and restaurants, final visitations, and audit preparations. “After the audit, a memo will be issued if there are missing documents or materials that need to be replaced. After completing and revising it, then it goes to Fatwa of Indonesian Ulema Council commission and after that the Halal Certificate is issued, “she explained.
