The University of Islam Malang (Unisma) has proven itself as a creative campus with an out of the box mindset. More and more ideas always come up in an unusual way. The results were amazing with various achievements. Trust continues to grow to this Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Green Campus.
One of the trusts is  from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. Unisma received a grant for the implementation of the Independent Learning-Independent Campus program. This grant aims to provide stimulation to universities to immediately reform the curriculum and build partnerships with industry, other universities, centers or institutions related to existing study programs both at home country and abroad.
Unisma rector, Prof. Dr. H. Maskuri, M.Si, said that the curriculum reconstruction was carried out as an effort to realize the learning concept that was not just in a theoretical way. But we also provide a portion for practice through apprenticeship and research and development programs.
“The ratio of the curriculum is 40-60 in which  60 percent for apprenticeships. But the apprenticeship is accompanied by research and development (RnD). This is what we apply at Unisma in providing nuances of a new curriculum for independent learning or independent campus, “he said.
Along with these preparations, Â the curriculum is also being revamped. It’s no longer a reconstruction but a complete change. Each study program also has a distinction from other campuses.
Of course, the independent campus grant is not given to any university. There are several conditions that must be met. One of them is a campus with far ahead and out of the box mindset.
Unisma now has a new concept in implementing Research and Community Service (Tri Dharma) of higher education in the field of community service. The program, which is usually called community service, will change its name next year to Serving Bachelor Candidate. With the frills of bachelor candidates, student performance will be different. There will be a greater value of seriousness and responsibility.
That program also applies to graduate program students. Later there will be Serving Master Candidates and Serving Doctoral Candidates. Serving Master Candidates is not only a service activity but also produces output that can be published in a reputable journal.
” The reputable journals might be indexed in the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) with an international reputation. And the results can be published in the media. That is more than  an activity. Those are our targets with an unusual mindset, “said Prof. Maskuri.
